FUN WITH 'NEMO'

The Leicester favourite and number one at the club Kauko Nieminen celebrates eleven years in British Speedway with a Testimonial meeting at the Jordan Road Surfacing Stadium on Sunday 2nd June.

“I am pleased to say that the fixture will be Leicester against a team drawn from people who I have ridden with during my career and riders who I count as my friends. Joe Haines the former British Under-21 Champion is one such person and Workington’s Rusty Harrison, who helped me immensely when I first arrived to ride in the UK, is another. I am hoping to be able to announce more names in the next few days of the riders who have accepted my invitation to share the day with me” commented the Lions team captain.

The Testimonial meeting is sponsored by AFS (1993) Limited who are a local company and valued partner of Leicester Speedway. “One of the easiest decisions to make was the day we were asked to support Kauko Nieminen's Testimonial. This gentleman has been a part of the Leicester Lions team since we attended our first meeting at the Stadium during that first season. I am lucky to have had the chance to watch Kauko from within the pits at many Leicester meetings. He thinks not about himself but the team as a whole. He always supports whoever he rides with, whatever their ability. When he returns to the pits after a ride he always passes on advice to the riders in the next heat, a true sign of a committed captain. We hope you will all come along and support Kauko and make this day a day to remember” stated the company spokesperson Martin Perkins.

Anyone wishing to sponsor Kauko for his testimonial should email him on funwithnemo@leicester-speedway.com

The meeting will open with a parade of the riders at 3.45pm with the first race starting fifteen minutes later. “The emphasis on the day is the word ‘fun’ and there will be a few surprises during the course of the event” added Nieminen.

Now in his twelfth season here and his third at Leicester, Kauko Nieminen arrived in the UK in 2002 to ride for Workington. He was a key figure in the team that twice won the Premier League Fours’ competition and a gold medal in the Pairs’ Final.
